Choosing a major can feel like choosing your whole future. It isn't, but it's worth choosing with a plan.
Step 1: List what you enjoy
Write down the subjects, activities and topics you'd happily spend a Saturday on. Be honest: what you enjoy, not what sounds impressive.
Step 2: List what you're good at
Look at your grades, but also at feedback from teachers, coaches and friends. Are you the one who explains things, builds things, organises people or notices details?
Step 3: Check the job market
For each idea, look up three real job posts that a graduate of that major could apply for. What do they ask for? What do they pay? Do they excite you?
Put it together
The majors that appear in all three lists are worth a closer look. Then:
- Talk to a current student or graduate in that major
- Check the admission requirements and the first-year courses
- Discuss it with your parents, with the facts in hand
